Koh Samui... "An Island Paradise"

Koh Samui, or simply Samui as it is often referred to by locals, is an island off the east coast of the Kra Isthmus in the Gulf of Thailand.

Located about 35km northeast of mainland town of Surat Thani Province, Koh Samui is part of Mu Ko Samui Archipelago.

The island measures some 25km at its widest point and is surrounded by about sixty other islands, which form the Ang Thong Marine National Park and include other tourist destinations, like Koh Phangan, Koh Tao and Koh Nang.

The island's local population is just over 62,000, but attracts over 1.5 million tourists every year.

Koh Samui has abundant natural resources including coconut palms and rubber trees, which form much of the island's produce and exports.

Boasting stunning waterfalls, white sandy beaches, coral reefs and a vast array of marine life, the warm clear waters surrounding the island are a mecca for scuba diving and many other forms of watersports.

Relaxation is a major part of island life on Koh Samui, so the island's huge choice of spas and health retreats attract many people from all over the world, to visit even for just a few days, or even weeks and months at a time.

Recreational activities are in abundance on the island, from a superb new 18 hole Championship Golf Course to Motocross and Elephant Trekking through the mountainous central jungle.

Koh Samui really has got something for everyone!
